Welcome to our May 2024 Fundraising Round – Up!
We wanted to share some of the highlights of our recent events, keep you up to date on what’s coming up for you to get involved in, and also to introduce you to our fantastic Fundraising Committee members who are responsible for making our events happen.
US Active May Ball – Ties, Tiaras and Trainers
After the cancellation of our 2020 ball due to COVID, it was amazing to finally hold our first ever US Active ball on May 18th at the spectacular banqueting suite in Newcastle’s Civic Centre. Over 210 guests joined us for a fabulous evening hosted by Peter Durrant of Pride Radio. We enjoyed great food, music, magic tricks from Flash, and of course there were loads prizes to be won…to which we would like to say a huge thank you to the generosity of those donors!
The event raised £8,290 to support our ongoing work with North East young people! We hope to make this a bi-annual event so thanks to all who attended, and hopefully we’ll see you at the next one!
Recycling for US Active
Did you know that in 2023/24 we raised over £1000 by recycling? That included recycling clothes, CDs and books, phones, ink cartridges, furniture…in fact any unwanted goods!
A key part of our recycling is EGG BOXES. We have a collaboration with Barry’s Eggs and Veg on Bedford Street in North Shields, and for every egg box we collect for Barry, US Active receives a 5 pence donation. We have managed to create our very own ‘network’ of drop-off locations, so if you love an omelette, or could motivate your family or workplace to collect egg boxes for US (and the planet), then drop us an email to [email protected], and we’ll make a collection/drop off plan!
Meet the Fundraising Committee
This month we’re introducing Sean who joined US Active’s fundraising committee in 2023, and not only played a key role in organising the ball, but he also helped raise over £500 in April from a cake bake.
Here’s why Sean joined our Fundraising Committee, “Although life is very busy and spare time precious, I wanted to give some of that time in supporting a local charity. Having worked with young adults for most of my career, I recently found US!
Helping young people can be rewarding and fulfilling, but sometimes, difficult. By working together as a team, in whatever way, however small, we can make a difference to people struggling with their mental health.”

Summer Walk and Dine
SATURDAY 10TH AUGUST 2024, CRASTER TO EMBLETON, VIA DUNSTANBURGH CASTLE
Join US for a walk along the Northumberland coastline. With a route of approximately 6 miles of easy walking, it will take in Dunstanburgh Castle, a stop for coffee at Dunstanburgh Golf Club, then return over Dunston Steads, through the quarry and back to Craster. Enjoy the morning with a picnic lunch provided.

Wine Tasting Evening at Caruthers and Kent, Gosforth
SATURDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER 2024, 5.30 – 7.30PM

Hosted in the Tasting Room, the tutored tasting will cater for all – delivered in a relaxed, ‘Call my Bluff’ game style, you’ll be laughing while learning (unless the competitor in you is awoken!)
